Message from Board of Directors
The Sebastian Ferrero Foundation has been on an incredible journey with our community and supporters from around the state over the past seven years advocating and fundraising to improve and expand pediatric healthcare for all children and families in our region and beyond.
With the opening of the new Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) in January 2014, the current construction of a state-of-the-art child- and family-friendly children’s hospital façade, and the recent groundbreaking of the new Sebastian Ferrero Atrium, the UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital project is progressing at extraordinary pace. As of May 2015, the Foundation has donated over $4.9 million to UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital and is committed to supporting each phase until completion.
With the support of thousands, the Foundation has achieved many milestones in support of the UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital project thus far. The new pediatric emergency department has exceeded the anticipated volume of incoming patients, making the demand for a full-service, state-of-the-art children’s hospital even more evident. Scheduled to break ground later this year, a newly renovated child- and family-friendly atrium and lobby will house world-renowned artist, Romero Britto’s sculpture entitled ‘Tomorrow,’ created in honor of the Sebastian Ferrero Foundation. The sculpture is currently on display at the Harn Museum of Art at UF awaiting its permanent home in what will become the Sebastian Ferrero Atrium at the UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital. The Foundation is fully dedicated to supporting UF Health in their continuous advancements in pediatric research, healthcare and education.
As we continue to make steadfast progress in our shared mission, we count on your commitment and support to continue uniting the members of our region and beyond in support of the UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital. Your partnership will further strengthen our commitment to all children and families coming to the University of Florida seeking the safest and highest quality of care.
