The mission of the Sebastian Ferrero Foundation includes promoting excellence in patient safety. The Foundation has created three Patient Safety Education Forums that are free for the public. To schedule an Education Forum, contact the Foundation at info@sebastianferrero.org. The Foundation can also design a custom education forum for your specific organization or audience. Our goal is to make your healthcare experience as safe as possible.

Patient Safety and Speak

Summary: The Patient Safety and Speak UP Education Forum has three components:

Information about the Sebastian Ferrero Foundation, its efforts to bring a children’s hospital to Gainesville and the benefits of a children’s hospital.

Facts and Figures about medical errors, and The Speak Up program empowering participants to become active partners in their healthcare experience.

Purpose: To empower healthcare consumers to take an active and vocal role in their healthcare experience.

Target Audience: Parents, Adults, Families, Schools, Clubs, Religious Organizations, and just about anyone who ever sees a doctor.

Presenters: Sebastian Ferrero Foundation staff and/or Board of Directors, pediatricians, and parents.

Time: 20-40 minutes for the formal presentation and then Q&A

Sebastian’s Story and Medication Errors

Summary: This forum informs participants on the chronological history and details of the medical errors and medication overdose that led to the death of Sebastian Ferrero with an understanding that systems errors can cause tragic events for the families involved. This session includes the personal learnings of Horst and Luisa and translates them into advice for healthcare providers in an effort to impart the importance of communication.

Purpose: To teach healthcare providers the importance of communication, patient safety and personal responsibility.

Target Audience: Healthcare providers, students in healthcare fields and staff of healthcare institutions

Patient Safety and Family Fun Tent

Summary: The Patient Safety and Family Fun Tent brings the Sebastian Ferrero Foundation to your event, fair, carnival, party, sporting event, fundraiser, etc… We will bring the tent and all the materials necessary to informally speak to participants about the Sebastian Ferrero Foundation and we will even organize an art project or activity which could include butterfly mobiles, coloring competitions, safety games, or any customized thematic activity.

Purpose: Community Awareness and Family Fun
